    THE ANSWERS:

    What is TiVo?
TiVo is a revolutionary way to watch television. TiVo works with just about any TV setup to automatically find and digitally record up to 700 hours of the programming you want--every episode of your favorite series, every Coppola movie, home improvement shows, Dora cartoons, whatever you choose--all while you're out living life. Plus, pause, rewind and slo-mo live TV. Home media features like digital music, photos and TiVo Online Scheduling also included.

How much is the TiVo Service?
The monthly TiVo service charge is $12.95 (cable, antenna and Dish Network users). DirecTV users with a DirecTV DVR with TiVo pay just $4.99 per month, which covers every DirecTV DVR in your home. The TiVo service fee is waived for DirecTV Total Choice Premier subscribers. Cable/antenna/Dish Network subscribers with a standalone TiVo can purchase lifetime TiVo service for a one-time $299 fee, in lieu of the $12.95/mo fee. Also, for those with multiple standalone TiVos (without DirecTV), the monthly fee for multiple TiVos can be as low as $6.95/month for additional units.

What is the difference between a DirecTV DVR and a standalone TiVo?
DirecTV DVRs will only work with DirecTV. They will record two programs at the same time and generally have a better picture quality. The monthly service charge is also lower. DirecTV DVRs have digital optical out and can record in dolby digital. Standalone TiVo units can record only one show at a time. The service fees are higher. However, these units, unlike the DirecTV units, can be connected to a home network to allow for remote programming, sharing between units in the same home and other features. The DirecTV units do NOT have active USB ports and cannot be networked together. The standlone units can be purchased with a built-in DVD recorder; the DirecTV units cannot.

My TiVo is stuck at "Powering Up." Will your upgrade fix it?
In most cases, yes. TiVo DVRs stuck at "Powering Up" generally indicate a bad drive. In that event, a "replacement" kit should get the TiVo to boot again. In the unlikely event that this doesn't fix the problem, our kits are returnable within 30 days. Please see our "return" information for more details.

    Can I do this myself?
You can try using the TiVo upgrade instructions that are online. It's fairly complicated, but the tech-savvy like to try.
